A Series of Unfortunate Events, By Lemony Snicket
I still remember the first time I read The Bad Beginning (I have, of course, read it many times since). I was traveling to Ohio with two of my cousins and their parents, all in one van. I only vaguely remember that my cousins were arguing over which seat they had and what DVD to put in the portable player, because I couldn’t stop reading this book. I get carsick when I read, but I still powered through because it’s THAT GOOD. I loved the dark humor and the characters, the exciting story and the frightening/sometimes funny Olaf.
This is probably the first series that I truly devoured and then wished I’d read slower because I didn’t want it to end (this is still a problem I often deal with today). Please read this book if you haven’t already. Even if you’re an adult. They’re short and so worth it. Also, Netflix is turning the books into a series, so you need to catch up with the books first.
